College for the Easily Amused

MadTown!

The Next Meeting

Come play with us on our last meeting of the year, December 13, from 1-5 pm. We should have a room in the Memorial Union (check Today in the Union on Saturday for the room). If you have trouble finding us, call my cell phone at 608-658-7985. As ever, bring all your friends. Word.

The College will be foregoing a January meeting, and instead everyone should attend MadFest Jan. 16-18. We'll probably also skip February for Mondo Feb. 6-8 (or maybe not, we'll see).

Hey, one other thing. There's a "branch" of the College meeting weekly in Madison now, I think Tuesday evenings (maybe at 7:00?) on campus (maybe in Carson Gully Commons, down by the Lakeshore dorms?). Contact AJ Costa at 608-264-2038 or email me for more info.

Directions

I just put together some directions and maps to our monthly gatherings, in case you get lost.

Poi Swingers Unite!

May 30: It's Thursday night, and I just got back from the regular Madison Area Jugglers meeting down on campus. I couldn't believe the number of new people we had coming up and learning how to juggle, swing poi, and spin diabolo, or who were already good jugglers or poi swingers and just wanted to stop by and see what was going on. It was really great to meet you all. I look forward to seeing each of you again at another MAJ meeting or at the next College for the Easily Amused. Be there -- there's so much to learn!

So it seems that there are a lot more talented poi/glowstick/fire swingers in Madison than I had guessed. One of the goals of the College is to bring together people from different groups in the community who do similar things, so we can all learn from each other. So, you are all invited to come meet with the MAJ and with the College. If any of you poi swingers care to reciprocate, and invite others to join you when you go out to play, email me and I'll post the details here.

Previous Meetings

July 13: another successful and fun meeting. I want to especially thank Steve Otteson for bringing his tightrope and slackrope.

June 16: the group this time was a little different, possibly because it was Father's Day, and because we had a joint meeting with the Madison Area Jugglers, but in any case it was great fun. I counted at least 6 poi swingers there. And Mark Hayward was actually there for more than a couple of minutes! I took some cool pictures that might turn out well, and which I might post sometime, but then that's what I said after the first meeting... :-)

So we met on May 11, and it was really groovy. But I don't have too much to write about it, so I'm leaving the paragraph I wrote about the meeting before it. Here it is:

This last meeting on April 13 was a totally good time. A lot of "regulars" from the first meeting were there, and we saw some new faces, which I hope will be a regular occurance (both seeing those faces who were new at the last meeting, and, seeing new faces in general). Scott, the "Prez," took some cool video and photos, Wendy declared herself the Vice President (and no one had any objections), and Walt and I raced to see who could do two diabolos on a solid loop first. Jugglery and tops and yoyo and poi swinging and hack were well represented. And I got to play with my bullwhips. I had fun. Hope you all did too.

Mailing List

If you want to get announcements of upcoming Madison events, subscribe to the madison@easily-amused.org mailing list. If you have trouble subscribing, email me. There are only a few messages a month on the list, so yer not gonna get flooded.

Pictures! (yea!)

To keep this page loading quickly, while I load up the site with new photos, I've moved all the pictures onto another page. Click here to go there! I'll be putting more photos up as time permits (my apologies for the delays).

Other Madison Community Links

As always, the Madison Area Jugglers meet every Thursday evening and Sunday afternoon. It's a great place to meet jugglers, improve your object manipulation skills, and get in on some sweet group club-passing patterns.

The College also has members from the Oregon Juggling Club in Oregon WI (just south of Madison), a friendly group that also meets Thursday evenings. Go check them out!

And, we're now live on the madison.com community pages. This is one of our voices in the town where people can learn about the college, so make suggestions if you have them to help explain what we do.
